Minister Al-Sayyid: Terrorism tried to misinterpret religious texts to justify murder and takfiri acts

In his lecture entitled “Deep thinking  … application of religion to reality”, Minister of Awqaf, Dr. Muhammad Abdul Sattar Al-Sayyed, touched on many topics related to the correct understanding of the religious text and how we must apply it in our time. The lecture was on the sidelines of the 31st book fair at Al-Assad National Library.

The Minister explained that the war that targeted Syria had multiple aspects in which religion was used to justify killing and murders using the fatwas of Ibn Taymiyyah and Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhab. Then the matter is not religious but an exploitation of religion wrongly, ignoring the texts that call for tolerance.

The minister pointed out that the Muslim Brotherhood organization and the Wahhabi movement are two sides of the same coin, they have the same ideology and the same goals: killing and destruction.

Dr. al-Sayyed also pointed out that the book “Jihad in Islam” by Sheikh Muhammad Saeed Ramadan al-Bouti showed the difference between jihad in self- defense and jihad used to attack and terrorise.

Minister al-Sayyed said that the main objectives of the terrorist war on Syria are to sow discord and target Iran which supports the Palestinian cause against Zionism, considering that the West tried to employ religion to serve its aims.
