MOSCOW, (ST)_ Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal Mikdad has affirmed that the Syrian -Russian relations have developed over the past years, especially in the field of combating terrorism and deepening the strategic relations, adding that the bilateral cooperation will witness more achievements during the upcoming months.
During a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on Thursday, Mikdad said: “We agreed during our talks to expand and enhance cooperation relations between Syria and Russia in all fields with the aim of reducing the effects of unilateral and coercive measures being imposed on Syria.”
The Syrian diplomat reiterated that these measures violates international laws.
He pointed out that some western states impose economic sanctions on other countries for the interest of their own political agendas .Some countries supported terrorist in Syria in an attempt to topple the Syrian state, but Syria remained steadfast for 10 years and it faced terrorism and foreign intervention in its internal affairs. Syria’s steadfastness made terrorism-supporters mad.”
Mikdad in addition stressed that western states’ refusal to contribute in the reconstruction process in Syria is a clear message to terrorists to go ahead with their crimes, adding that the biggest interest of US is to destroy Syria and not to reach apolitical solution to the ongoing crisis in it.
“The continuity of the illegal intervention of the US and its allies in Syria’s affairs and looting its oil and occupying its lands as well as supporting separatist militias breach UN resolutions,” he added, indicating that the current US administration worked on destabilizing the world through intervention in other countries’ internal affairs, especially its remarks on the occupied Syrian Golan and Jerusalem and its withdrawal from a number of international conventions and agreements.
The Minister referred to the fact that Trump’s proclamation about the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan is null and violates the international resolutions.
Moreover, Mikdad clarified that western countries’ intervention hinders the work of the mini-committee of discussing the Syrian constitution.
On his part, Lavrov reiterated his country’s firm stance towards preserving Syria’s territorial integrity ,sovereignty and independence ,asserting that only the Syrian people have the right of self-determination.
“Some countries continue hindering finding a solution to the crisis in Syria, and imposing economic sanctions on it in a violation of the UN relevant Resolutions, ” the Russian diplomat added.
