Mikdad: Syrian People’s Decision on Presidential Elections a Shock to Western Countries

BEIRUT- Through their heavy turnout on voting in the recently held presidential elections, the Syrian people sent a strong message to the Western countries stressing that they won’t surrender to pressures and will keep defending their sovereignty and independence, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal al-Mikdad has stressed, pointing out that within this context, one can understand the hysteria prevailing in the Western propaganda against Syria and its leadership.

In an article published yesterday by the Lebanese “al-Binaa” newspaper under the title “Honest Syrian Elections…Cheap Western propaganda”, said that “the Syrian people’s decision to hold elections has shocked the western countries, which don’t respect peoples’ will, and provided a proof that free peoples don’t give up to pressure or accept false democracy claims.”

The deputy foreign minister criticized the irresponsible attempts of US, French and UK officials to falsify facts and to distinguish between the so-called “Islamic State of Iraq and Levant” terrorist organization in Iraq and Syria when they talk about events in both countries. He pointed out that “this terrorist organization is the same of al-Qaeda organization in Iraq which had started its terrorist activities in Iraq years before the crisis erupted in Syria, but, it later spilled over to Syria.

“When the French Foreign Minister talks about human rights and democracy, he absolutely doesn’t think about his country’s violations of the minimum level of human rights or about the crimes committed by the French colonialists in Algeria, Syria and Lebanon,” Mikdad said, stressing that the Syrians are still wanting the French government to officially apologize for the crimes.

He affirmed the need to put those who committed the crime of striking Libya to trial, stressing that the Americans want peoples to forget the US crime of hitting Hiroshima and Nagazaki cities with nuclear bombs.

Mikdad also condemned Britain’s many crimes against humanity, referring to the crime of displacing the Palestinian people from their homeland and giving Palestine to Israel as a present.

The deputy foreign minister reiterated that “Syria is now witnessing the age of victories over its enemies onside Syria and abroad thanks to its steadfastness against all conspiracies.”
