Mikdad: Syria’s Constitution Cannot be Drafted Except on Syrian Soil

DAMASCUS- Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad said that the constitution of the Syrian Arab Republic cannot be drafted except on the Syrian soil, adding that the current Syrian constitution, which is one of the most modern constitutions in the world, must be respected.

According to SANA, Mikdad, during a meeting organized by the Revolutionary Youth Union at al-Assad National Library, affirmed that Syria has been committed to participate in all the activities aimed at finding a solution to the crisis, including Astana and Geneva, which was attended by “Riyadh opposition” delegation who brought with them pre-conditions for the solution which was rejected by Syria and it will not accept preconditions.

He pointed out that “some countries wanted to exploit those conferences and international envoys, concerned with the Syrian situation, to achieve their interests in politics because they failed to achieve that militarily.

The UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura did not play a balanced or fair role to resolve the crisis in Syria because his attitude was biased in favor of the Western and Gulf States, Mikdad said, adding that “Riyadh opposition” does not represent the Syrian people but it works in the benefit of those who financed, purchased and administrated it.

Mikdad stressed that the Syrian government is open to all national oppositions that represent a national opinion in the Syrian street.

“Anyone who conspires against the homeland is not patriotic,” Mikdad said.
