Mikdad: Syria appreciates Iranian efforts on preventing terrorists from possessing weapons of mass destruction

The Hague – Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad said that Syria appreciates the efforts exerted by the Islamic Republic of Iran in the war on terrorism and its endeavors to prevent terrorist organizations from possessing weapons of mass destruction, including chemical weapons, SANA reported.

Mikdad’s remarks came during a meeting with the Iranian delegation to the 22nd Session of the Conference of the States Parties in the OPCW which is currently held in The Hague, with the two sides discussing issues related to the Conference and the deliberations it has witnessed and the draft resolutions before it.

He affirmed that Syria appreciates the Iranian position in the Conference and its efforts to preserve the credibility of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and its charter as well as  its support to Syria in the face of attempts by some Western countries to divert the OPCW from its goals and exploit  it for their own agendas.

In turn, Head of Iranian delegation affirmed his country’s appreciation to the Syrian Arab Republic on fulfilling its commitments in light of its accession to OPCW, strongly condemning the pressure exerted by some Western countries on international organizations, including the OPCW.

The two sides agreed to continue mutual coordination during the Conference in order to serve the just causes and the objectives of the OPCW.
