On September 4, the Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad welcomed the new United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in Syria Ramlah Khalidi.
During a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates, the new UNDP Representative in Syria Ramlah Khalidi presented her credentials to Mr. Mikdad who affirmed the importance of productive cooperation between the Syrian government and UNDP.
Mr. Mikdad confirmed that the UNDP has to focus on development issues and achieve sustainable development in Syria, especially after the victories it has achieved in the war against terrorism and the regaining of stability and security in most of Syria, a step that would push the real development to strengthen the rebuilding process in the country.
He stressed the importance of UNDP to take into account the principle of professionalism, neutrality, independence and keeping away from politicization in its work.
Mrs. Khalidi expressed her appreciation to the Syrian government for accepting her credentials for the new UNDP Representative in Syria.
Mrs. Khalidi said that the UNDP will continue cooperation with the Syrian government to enhance the development process in Syria and she would seek to intensify the efforts of UNDP to meet the needs of the Syrian people.
The meeting was attended by Abdel Moneim Annan, Director of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences, Osama Ali, Director of the Office of the Deputy Minister, Dr. Al-Hakam Dande of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences, Yamen Badr of the Office of the Deputy Minister, and the UN by Gimar Deeb, Senior Advisor for Strategic Affairs to the UNDP’s Resident Representative.
