Mikdad discusses with the foreign ministers of Algeria, Jordan, Paraguay and Malaysia the strengthening of bilateral relations

New York (ST): On the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Miqdad, discussed with Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ramtane Lamamra the latest developments on the Arab arena, where point of views were unified  on the need to unite the Arab ranks and strengthen joint Arab action in facing the challenges and dangers they face. They  emphasized that the Palestinian cause and the liberation of the Arab lands occupied by “Israel” remain the main and central issue.

Minister Miqdad expressed Syria’s confidence in the role that Algeria can play to unite the Arab ranks and restore the spirit of solidarity among Arab countries.

In turn, Minister Lamamra reiterated Algeria’s firm position in supporting Syria to preserve its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and to combat terrorism in it, praising Syria’s unparalleled steadfastness during the past years.

The two ministers discussed ways to develop cooperation and coordination between the two countries in the various political, economic and cultural sectors and expressed their satisfaction with the level of bilateral relations, emphasizing the need to push them forward. They also agreed to continue consultation and coordination, whether with regard to cooperation between the two countries or joint Arab action.

Minister Miqdad also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Ayman Safadi.  During the meeting, they stressed the need to guarantee Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, to fully restore its security, stability and role, and to eliminate terrorism in its various forms.

Miqdad and Paraguay Foreign Minister Julio Cesar Arreola discussed relations between the two countries, where their views were in agreement on continuing to open prospects for bilateral cooperation in various fields and enhancing coordination between them, especially in light of cultural and societal ties.

Minister Miqdad also reviewed  with Malaysian Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah the developments in Syria, including efforts to combat terrorism and the effects of unilateral coercive measures imposed by Western countries on the Syrian people.
