TEHRAN- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal al-Mikdad has stressed that “defeating terrorism needs the will of all countries of the world to help stop the financing and arming of terrorists”.
Al-Mikdad was speaking yesterday during a meeting with the Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif in Tehran where the two sides talked about the latest developments in Syria and the region and about methods of boosting bilateral relations.
“The Syrian government is determined to keep fighting terrorism which endangers the entire region and world,” al-Mikdad said, affirming that defeating terrorism needs the will of all countries to seek stopping the arming and financing of terrorists.
He referred to the victories achieved by the Syrian Arab Army in its battle to uproot terrorism nationwide.
Concerning the Moscow consultative meeting between the Syrian government and the opposition sides, al-Mikdad said “the government of the Syrian Arab Republic highly appreciated the efforts exerted by our Russian friends as to make the meeting a success,” referring to “the qualitative step taken during the meeting on the way to solve the crisis in Syria.”
“The Syrian leadership has called and always calls for a Syrian-Syria dialogue away from foreign interference, because no solution for the crisis in Syria except the political settlement based on respecting the Syrian people’s will and maintaining the sovereignty and independence of Syria,” he added.
Syria, Iraq Fighting Terrorism on Behalf of the World
Regarding the developments in Iraq, Yemen and Libya, the Syrian diplomat said “Syria and Iraq are fighting terrorism on behalf of the world, so all countries should work to put an end to terrorism expansion because it threatens world peace and security.”
He urged stopping the Saudi aggression on Yemen which only serves the Zionist-American interests in the region and called for finding a peaceful and unconditional settlement in Yemen.
Al-Mikdad congratulated the Iranian people on the agreement reached with the G5+1 on the Iranian peaceful nuclear program, pointing out that “the Iranian people have the right to possess peaceful nuclear technology and to get all forms of embargo on their country lifted.”
On his part, Zarif reiterated his country’s support for Syria in the confrontation of terrorist takfiri groups and stressed the need to uproot terrorism and prevent its expansion through pressuring terrorism supporters to stop funding and arming the terrorists.
The Iranian minister hailed the achievements of the Syrian army and stressed that “the steadfastness of the Syrian leadership, people and army has foiled the conspiracy on Syria and it will defeat terrorism.”
Zarif welcomed the dialogue between the Syrian government and the opposition, pointing out that solution in Syria should be political without foreign interference.
On Yemen, the Iranian diplomat called for halting the Saudi aggression and starting dialogue, noting that Iran has presented a 4-item plan to solve the crisis in Yemen.
