TEHRAN-Today’s world is witnessing a genocide perpetrated by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinians, said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal al-Mikdad on Monday, stressing that Israel doesn’t want peace, but it seeks to get the entire region under its domination.
Mikdad made the remarks during the foreign ministerial meeting of the Palestine Committee of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) which was opened today morning in Tehran to tackle the deteriorating situation in Gaza Strip as a result of the ongoing Zionist aggression against the Palestinian people and to discuss ways to stop the Israeli crimes against the Palestinians.
He criticized the United Nations’ inaction towards the Israeli crimes against the Palestinian children in Gaza despite the fact that the UN’s task is to keep international peace and security.
The deputy minister added that Syria has dedicated all its potentials in the service of the Palestinian cause which “must continue to be the Arabs’ central cause”.
“Israel, backed by the Western countries which claim defending human rights, is waging a global war against the Palestinian people who only want to protect their dignity and rights,” Mikdad said, asserting that the peoples of Syria and Palestine are unified as regards their common cause and destiny.
In his speech at the opening ceremony of the one-day event, President Hassan Rouhani of Iran held the international Security Council responsible for the continuity of the Israeli aggression, because its permanent members have colluded with the occupation and didn’t pressure the Zionist entity to stop its crimes against the Palestinians.
“By attacking Gaza Strip and committing crimes against the Palestinians using most violent weapons, the Zionist occupation has violated all humanitarian principles and international conventions and has deepened its policies of killing civilians,” president Rouhani said.
He affirmed that the United States and some Security Council permanent members are “defending the oppressors by every means under the pretext that this is their foreign and regional policy”.
Rouhani urged NAM countries to react against the Israeli onslaught by pressuring the Security Council and the United Nations to act immediately to put an end to the Zionist aggression and lift the siege imposed on the Gazans as soon as possible.
He called on the NAM countries to dedicate their potentials to attain real peace and social justice and to help the Palestinian people regain their legitimate rights.
Foreign ministers of 30 countries are taking part in the meeting with Palestine Committee consisting of Iran, Palestine, Algeria, Egypt, Senegal, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, India and Cuba.
