Mikdad affirms Syrian state’s adherence to the principles of international humanitarian law

DAMASCUS, (ST)_Deputy Minister of Expatriates and Foreign Affairs Faysal Mikdad handed over the Italian boy of Albanian origin, Elvin, , who was held in al-Houl Camp, to the president of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Francesco Rocca.

He affirmed that the Syrian state is ready to provide all necessary facilities to help children, who are the victims of extremist groups in Syria.

The official criticized Western countries, saying they “claim to respect (humanitarian) laws but shirk their commitments.”

He congratulated the boy’s parents, SARC, and IFRC on this achievement, which represents the humanitarian aspect of the Syrian state policies, affirming that the Syrian state cares about addressing these humanitarian cases because of its adherence to the principles of international humanitarian law, according to the Syrian News Agency (SANA).

For his part, Rocca voiced appreciation for the cooperation shown by both the Syrian government and SARC to facilitate the return of Alvin to his family and end his suffering.
