Message from President Al-Assad to Khamenei

TEHRAN, (ST)- President Bashar Al-Assad sent a message to the Supreme Leader of the Iranian Islamic Revolution, Sayyed Ali Khamenei, dealing with prospects of Syrian-Iranian cooperation which are growing stronger thanks to the keenness of both governments on enhancing bilateral ties and joint efforts to confront all American-Western schemes in the region.

The message was handed over on Tuesday to Khamenei’s Advisor Ali Akbar Velayati by Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi who was on a visit to Tehran to attend the Constitutional Oath Ceremony of the new Iranian President Hassan Rohani.

Velayati stressed that the strong and strategic Syrian –Iranian relations, the bases of which were laid by Late Imam Sayyed al-Khumeini and late President Hafez Al-Assad, “add further responsibility on us to keep them strong and help enhancing them in all domains.”

He hoped that the Syrian people will surpass the crisis as soon as possible, affirming Iran’s firm support to Syria.

For his part, al-Halqi said that Syria and Iran under the leaderships of Sayyed Ali Khamenei and President Bashar Al-Assad will continue the process of common action and will keep doing their best to boost bilateral relations, particularly in the economic and commercial fields.

“Despite the heinous global war on Syria, the Syrian people have been able to withstand all challenges thanks to their strong will, national unity and support by their real friends,” al-Halqi added.

Al-Halqi and Velayati’s meeting dealt also with the booming economic and commercial reactions between the two countries, ways of accelerating the flow of the Iranian products and oil derivatives to the Syrian markets and prospects of carrying out joint projects that strengthen the Syrian economy in the face of the conspiracy.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Presidential Affairs Mansour Azzam, the Cabinet Secretary General Tayseer al-Zou’bi and the Syrian Ambassador to Iran Adnan Mahmoud.
