Damascus University and the National Union of Syrian Students sign a memorandum of understanding with Watan Foundation

Damascus (ST): Damascus University and the National Union of Syrian Students signed a memorandum of understanding with Watan Foundation, to enable a culture of oral documentation in the sectors of society  and educational curricula.

According to the memorandum, cooperation will take place between the three parties in implementing joint programs, projects and activities, holding workshops, competitions, seminars, forums and celebrations, and cooperating in implementing programs aimed at raising awareness in local communities and keeping pace with the latest developments in scientific research and its methods.

Cooperation is also undertaken in seeking to introduce the concept of oral history within educational curricula and projects of official and private institutions as a modern and contemporary way of preserving memory and contributing to enabling a culture of oral documentation in various sectors of society, through educational programs, providing support and guidance to researchers and those interested in oral documentation, and evaluating their work according to a clear methodology by the Watan Document Foundation. The training centers and places are secured by the university and the union, according to executive agreements regulating the relationship.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Watan Document Foundation, Dr. Buthaina Shaaban, stressed the importance of partnership with Damascus University and the Students’ Union in this field, in order to serve the students and preserve our identity, history and heritage, noting that documentation has become an existential necessity in light of the terrorist war that Syria has been subjected to and the falsification of facts.

For his part, the President of Damascus University, Dr. Muhammad Osama Al-Jabban, indicated that the signing of the memorandum comes as the University of Damascus is approaching the celebration of the centenary of its founding, stressing the importance of partnership with the Watan Document Foundation and the Student Union, to achieve the goals of the memorandum in a manner that serves students and professors.
