Memorandum of Receiving Humanitarian Aid from China, Co- Signed

DAMASCUS,(ST)_ Minister of Social Affairs Dr. Kindaal-Shammat signed, yesterday with China ambassador in Damascus Wang Kjaan a memorandum on receiving Chinese aid to the Syrian people, as an expression of solidarity of the Chinese people and government, under the ongoing crisis.

In a statement to reporters following the signing of the memorandum, the minister expressed deep thanks of the Syrian government for China’s stances with Syria in all international forums, stressing that “the Syrian people will never forget China’s stance in support of Syria just issues since the start of the crisis.”

She pointed out that the humanitarian aid include “school materials and stationery, blankets, wheelchairs for the disabled and mobility aids and devices for the disabled and wounded whose number have been increasing as a result of war being waged against Syria.”

Al-Shammat also pointed out ” another shipment of aid from China that will arrive in Syria in the mid of next May,” including 270 prefabricated housing units, which will be ready for quick housing. “

For his part, Ambassador Kjaan stressed that his country is closely following “the current situation in Syria and the suffering of the Syrian people for more than four years,” noting that the new batch of humanitarian aid from China to Syria is an expression of his country’s solidarity and support for the Syrian people.

Kjaan added that China continues since the start of the crisis in Syria, to provide humanitarian assistance to the Syrians inside and outside Syria and expressed hope that this aid would contribute to alleviating the suffering of the Syrians.

The Chinese ambassador stressed that the only way out of the crisis in Syria is a political solution, adding that “China supports all the efforts of the parties concerned in support of consultations aimed at finding a solution consistent with the special circumstances in Syria and conducive to ending the crisis.”

He reiterated his country’s position that a political solution to the crisis in Syria must be “consistent and in line with the interests and will of the Syrian people,” pointing out that this solution will eventually lead to “achieve security and stability in Syria and the region.”

Noteworthy that China handed over the Syrian Arab Red Crescent Society in August, 2014, humanitarian and medical aid worth 20 million Chinese yuan to be distributed through the society’s affiliated medical centers to families affected by the crisis in Syria.
