Mechanism for Lifting Sanctions on Syria to be Discussed in Turkish-American Meeting

A Turkish-American working group will discuss the mechanism for lifting U.S. sanctions on Syria during a meeting hosted in Washington tomorrow, Tuesday. The meeting will also address ensuring security and stability, maintaining the territorial integrity and safety of Syria, and other related issues.

 

According to sources in the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Monday, the meeting will be co-chaired by Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yılmaz and his American counterpart Christopher Landau, in a format involving institutions from both countries, as reported by the official Turkish news agency Anadolu.

 

The meeting is expected to cover the priorities of both Turkey and the United States in their policies towards Syria, as well as explore opportunities for cooperation to achieve security and stability in the Arab country (Syria).

 

Among the key issues on the agenda is the file concerning the fight against ISIS and other terrorist organizations. The regional efforts led by Turkey recently and the support provided to the new Syrian administration in combating ISIS will also be discussed.

 

Additionally, according to sources, discussions are expected to include the mechanism for lifting U.S. sanctions on Syria, along with the timeline and steps to be taken in this regard.

 

Yılmaz is expected to emphasize during the meeting the importance of multidimensional coordination between Turkey and the United States in political, economic, and security fields to ensure security and stability in Syria by maintaining its unity and territorial integrity, according to sources.
