Mayaleh Denies Rumors on floating Syrian Pound

DAMASCUS,(ST)_The governor of the Central Bank of Syria Dr. Adib Mayaleh  said that allegation by some media on floating the  Syrian pound is categorically  untrue and part of the media war against Syria and its economy.

In a statement on Monday, Mayaleh said that this news which falls within the course of continued lies,  is but a new  pressure on the Syrian pound to raise skepticism in the ability of the   national economy to stand against the fierce war being waged against it.

Mayaleh explained  that the concept of the  alleged flotation contrasts the recent procedures taken by  the Central Bank of Syria in order to defend the exchange rate of the SP, noting that the   Central Bank intervenes on a daily basis through selling  hard currencies  to banks and banking institutions .

He also denied rumors about the central bank quest to keep the foreign exchange assets at the expense of the exchange rate,  indicating that the primary goal  of the Central Bank of Syria is to keep the exchange rate and that the Bank has enough foreign currencies  reserves .
