Nouakchott, (ST)- President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Al-Ghazouani of Mauritanian accepted the credentials of the Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania Kusai Mustafa during an official ceremony on Tuesday.
Ambassador Mustafa conveyed the greetings of President Bashar Al-Assad to Al-Ghazouani and his wishes for prosperity and development for the brotherly Mauritanian people, affirming that efforts will be concentrated on enhancing bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries in all fields .
For his part, President Al-Ghazouani said that Syrian-Mauritanian relations are well-established and deep-rooted in history, stressing the firm and principled Mauritanian position on Syria, and hoping that Syria will return to its leading position in the Arab region.
The Mauritanian President asked the Ambassador to convey his greetings, respect and appreciation to President Al-Assad, stressing readiness to provide all support to strengthen bilateral relations in all fields in a way that serves interest of the two brotherly peoples.
Following the ceremony and after his meeting with President Al-Ghazouani, the ambassador Mustafa made a statement in which he said that President Al-Ghazouani stressed the firm and deep-rooted Syrian-Mauritanian relations.
Mustafa added that he confirmed to the president that Syria considers Mauritania as the fortified western gate of the Arab world and it highly appreciates the honorable stance of Mauritania on the war that has targeted Syria.
“Mauritania maintained its embassy in Syria and kept its diplomatic ties with the country at the level of ambassador. The relations between the two countries never stopped; rather, official, party, parliamentary and popular visits by the Mauritanian side continued as an expression of solidarity with the Syrian Arab Republic, Mustafa clarified.
He affirmed that he will work hard as to boost these already distinguished relations in a way that meets the aspirations of the two leaderships and the brotherly peoples of Syria and Mauritania.
