Massive gathering of Moslem scholars and Christian clergymen at Ummayad Mosque in support for presidential elections in Syria

The Grand Ummayad Mosque in Damascus on Monday hosted a massive gathering for Moslem scholars and Christian clergymen in support for holding presidential elections in Syria scheduled on Wednesday, May 26th, 2021 and for maintaining the unity of Syrian national fabric.

Minister of Awqaf (Islamic Endowments), Mohammad Abdul Sattar Al-Sayyed, the Patriarchal Vicar at the Patriarchate of Antioch and All East for the Greek Orthodox, Archbishop Ephrem Maalouli, and several other Islamic and Christian men of religion made speeches in which they affirmed the importance of wide participation in the presidential elections and to make this constitutional process a success so that Syria can restore its effective role in the region.

Speeches stressed that holding these elections sends a message to the world that the Syrian people, who suffered for years from terrorism are adherent to their homeland and are now united more than ever in defense of their country against all schemes targeting its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and thus they are going to choose a strong leader who can continue with the process of protecting and reconstructing Syria.
