Marking World Tourism Day, “I Love Aleppo” Marathon Kicks off

ALEPPO-On the occasion of World Tourism Day, “I Love Aleppo” marathon kicked off in the city of Aleppo on Friday.

The marathon is organized by Aleppo Tourism Directorate in cooperation with Aleppo Youth Volunteer Team with the participation of volunteers from several organizations, civil associations and martyrs’ family members, according to SANA.

The marathon’s participants took the course from Aleppo Citadel in front of Khan al-Wazir and headed towards the Umayyad Mosque to the roundabout of al-Sabaa Bahrat, and ended at Saadallah al-Jabri Square before “I Love Aleppo” monument.

 Speaking to SANA, Tourism Minister Bishr Yazigi said that the citizens of Aleppo, in all their activities, have affirmed their love for their city, stressing that the role of the youth of Aleppo is to restore glamour to the Old City of Aleppo.

In turn, Head of Aleppo Tourism Directorate, Bassem Khatib, said that the marathon has kicked off from the Old Aleppo towards its modern parts where the participants chanted “Aleppo has Recovered”.

The World Tourism Day is celebrated every 27 September around the world. Its purpose is to raise awareness about the role of tourism and to demonstrate how it affects social, cultural, political and economic values worldwide.

The theme for World Tourism Day 2018 is “Tourism and the Digital Transformation”.

Under the auspices of Syrian Minister of Tourism Eng. Besher Riad Yazji, the activities of World Tourism Day 2018 have been launched Thursday evening at Dar AlAssad for Culture and Art in Damascus, in the presence of a number of ministers, governors, ambassadors, senior officials, diplomats, investors, businessmen, artists and media channels, according to the facebook page of the Tourism Ministr.

“Digital Transformation”; the Slogan that was set up by #UNWTO for World Tourism Day this year 2018 for encouraging innovative ideas and digital technologies and to stress their contribution to the growth of tourism.
