Marking World Humanitarian Day, Russian forces, operating in Syria, distribute humanitarian aid to families in Qamishli, Deir Ezzor and Tartous
Provinces – The Russian forces operating in Syria’s Qamishli city, on Saturday distributed food aid to some 300 families in Al-Watwatiya village in Qamishli countryside.
Supervisor of the process from the Russian forces side, Colonel Victer, told a SANA reporter that on the World Humanitarian Day, (which commemorates the anniversary of the martyrdom 22 humanitarian aid workers in Iraq in 2003 as a result of a terrorist bomb attack) the Russian forces distributed food parcels that contained sugar, rice, flour, cooking oil and tea to 300 families in Qamishli, pointing out that the humanitarian work of the Russian forces continues as to support Syria in the face of the difficult circumstances resulted from the war, the earthquake and the western blockade.
For his part, Head of the Al-Watwatiya Church Committee Aziz Soumi affirmed that the aid provided by the Russian friends aims at assisting the needy families in the light of the current difficult living conditions due to the unfair blockade. He pointed out that such initiatives stem from Russia’s humanitarian role in support for the Syrian people.
In Deir Ezzour, The Russian Coordination Center branch in Hatla village distributed food and medical aid to locals in Al-Hamidiya neighborhood.
Head of the Russian Coordination Center in the province, Maj. Gen. “Egar Smouli”, said that 400 food parcels were distributed in Al-Hamidiya neighborhood, in addition to medical aid to support health services.
He added that humanitarian work is a main policy in the work of the Russian Coordination Center that is always based on supporting the people who returned to their houses in the areas liberated from terrorism.
A number of locals thanked Russia for supporting the Syrian people and army in fighting terrorism and restoring security to the towns and villages and for providing humanitarian assistance to the people who need.
Meantime, the Russian Coordination Center in Hmeimmim base provided 2 tons of humanitarian aid to people in Al-Dananeer village in Tartous countryside.
Colonel “Alexi Libukhen”, representative of the center, told reporters that the aid contains food supplies including flour, rice, cooking oil and sugar, stressing that the aid is part of Russia’s relief role.
For his part, Head of the Municipality of Mi’ar village Shaker Kanaj said that the Russian aid confirms the deep friendship between the peoples of Russia and Syria and the firm support of the Russian federation for the Syrian state.
