Mansour: The occupation’s invasion of the city of Rafah is a threat to international peace and security

The Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations Riyad Mansour appealed to the international community to take immediate action to stop the Israeli occupation’s plan to invade the city of Rafah.

He stressed that the Security Council must demand stopping this criminal aggression as it constitutes a serious threat to the international peace and security and the protection of Palestinians in line with the international law and the relevant Security Council Resolutions.

In identical letters to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the Security Council and the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Mansour pointed to the horrific Israeli plan that is being now demonstrated in Rafah, where about one and half million Palestinians live, the majority of whom are in temporary tents.

He pointed out that the occupation began displacing more than 100,000 Palestinians east of Rafah to the Al-Mawasi area, which was completely destroyed by the occupation forces, in addition to the presence of thousands of tons of unexploded ordnance there, which pose a danger to everyone.

Mansour called on the Security Council to immediately fulfill its obligations under the Charter and put an end to obstructing the measures that the Council must take in the face of this horrific situation, in addition to providing protection for the Palestinian people and ensuring safe and rapid access to humanitarian aid.

He also stressed that the council needs to call for immediate and independent international investigation into the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation in Gaza, including the mass graves that were discovered in Al-Shifa and Nasser hospitals.
