Mansour: The aggression of the Israeli occupation on the city of Jenin shows the worst forms of terrorism
Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Riyad Mansour has affirmed that the failure to include “Israel” in the list of violators of children’s rights in the report of the United Nations Secretary-General on Children and Armed Conflict is a failure of the organization and an official declaration of the continuation of the occupation in its crimes.
WAFA news agency quoted Mansour as saying during a meeting of the Security Council on Children and Armed Conflict: “we received the report of the Secretary-General once again with deep disappointment, as it ignored the suffering of Palestinian children, and it seems that the occupation’s violation of their rights is subject to different standards than the global standards stipulated in the mandate for children and armed conflict.”
Mansour criticized the report, which acknowledged that Palestine was among the regions that recorded the highest number of violations against children in 2022, yet “Israel” was not added to any of the lists of violators of children’s rights. On the contrary, the report has provided “Israel” with protection from any accountability, which is considered as offensive and provocative, especially since only days after the report was issued, “Israel” launched 10 air raids on Jenin camp, a densely populated civilian area, endangering the lives of civilians, including children.
On July 5th, Mansour, confirmed that the Israeli occupation’s aggression against the city of Jenin and its camp in the West Bank shows the worst forms of terrorism, and is a war crime and a crime against humanity.
Mansour sent three letters to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the Security Council and the President of the General Assembly.
He said in these letters that within 48 hours of its aggression against the Jenin camp, the Israeli occupation committed the most heinous forms of terrorism by killing, maiming, forcibly displacing Palestinians, and arbitrarily destroying their property, in flagrant violation of the law.
Mansour pointed to the death of 12 Palestinians, including 5 children, and the wounding of more than 140 others, in addition to the displacement of more than 3,500 Palestinians living in the camp.
He explained that the occupation warplanes carried out intensive raids and barbaric shelling, in addition to attacks with bulldozers on Jenin camp which caused massive destruction to homes, roads, water, sanitation and electricity networks in the densely populated camp.
Mansour called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and abandon its double standards and bias towards “Israel”, provide protection for the Palestinian people and end the occupation.
