New York, (ST) – Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Riyad Mansour stressed that famine in Gaza Strip is no longer looming on the horizon, but it has become a horrific reality due to the ongoing Israeli occupation aggression on it since October 7.
He pointed out that famine requires the international community to confront the failures that allow these injustices to continue.
Wafa News Agency quoted Mansour as saying in a speech before the 2024 High-Level Political Forum entitled “From the Sustainable Development Goals Summit to the Summit of the Future”, which was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York: “While we are holding the summit on the future, the present in Palestine is full of pain and suffering due to the occupation, most notably the damage to the education sector”.
Mansour pointed out that while world leaders will meet at the United Nations next September, the path should be characterized by strengthening solidarity and striving to achieve justice in a consistent manner without selectivity or double standards, and recognizing that freedom and justice are the right of every human being.
He called on the international community to adhere to the basic principles for achieving the sustainable development goals before 2030, in a way that ensures everyone’s commitment to the rules of international law and does not allow anyone to violate it.
