Mansour calls on the UN Security Council to halt the crimes of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinians

On July 22nd, the Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations Riyad Mansour called on the United Nations Security Council to take serious and practical action to stop the ongoing Israeli occupation crimes against the Palestinian people and their sanctities.

In letters sent to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the Security Council, and the President of the General Assembly, Mansour explained that the recent aggression by the occupation against the city of Jenin and its camp in the West Bank led to the death of 12 Palestinians, including 5 children, and the injury of more than 140. It also caused damage to no less than 900 homes, in addition to forcibly displacing about 3,000 people from their homes.

Despite this, the Security Council did not move seriously to carry out its responsibilities and work to stop the aggression.

Mansour pointed out that this ordeal is repeated for Palestinians under Israeli occupation, despite the fact that international humanitarian law requires the protection of Palestinians, and prohibits such attacks.

Mansour said that the Security Council and relevant United Nations bodies, including the General Assembly and the Human Rights Council, must shoulder their legal and moral responsibilities to ensure that the occupying entity is held accountable for its crimes, in addition to ensuring international protection for the Palestinian people and assisting them in achieving their inalienable rights, including the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital.
