The Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, called on the international community to take action, in the hope of saving the rest of Palestinian lives in the Gaza Strip, stop the ongoing Israeli occupation aggression against it, end the siege, and allow aid to reach it.
According to Wafa Palestinian News Agency ,Mansour, today, sent letters to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the Security Council, and the President of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Letters sent were regarding the failure of the UN Security Council to impose an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, as a result of the United States’ use of the “veto,” which allowed the Israeli war machine to continue killing Palestinians with complete impunity.
Mansour pointed out that obstructing the Security Council from carrying out its duties, under the Charter, is in stark contrast to global calls to stop the bloodshed. More so it ignores the Secretary-General’s activation of Article 99 of the Charter. He also warned against the seriousness of this unprecedented situation, which may lead to exacerbation of threats that may affect the maintenance of international peace and security.
Mansour appealed to the international community to fulfill in word and deed their legal, political, humanitarian and moral obligations, stressing that the Palestinian people and the peoples of the entire world look forward to the General Assembly to take steps towards fulfilling action without delay, and not lose their faith in the rule of international law and humanity.
Mansour noted the unprecedented letter sent by the Commissioner-General of UNRWA to the President of the General Assembly, in which he urged member states to take immediate action to implement the ceasefire ,execute international law, in addition to the necessity of preventing the forced displacement of Palestinians outside the Palestinian territories.
