On February 27, the Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations Riyad Mansour affirmed that the Israeli occupation authorities’ announcement of a plan to establish 3,500 settlement units in occupied East Jerusalem is a war crime.
Mansour said that the Israeli plan is a flagrant violation of international legitimacy resolutions and undermines any opportunities to establish a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.
In a statement released by Ma’an News Agency, Mansour said that the settlement occupation schemes come as an implementation of the provisions of the so-called ‘deal of the century’ which gives the green light to the occupation to escalate its aggression and crimes against the Palestinians.
Mansour said that the failure of the international community in implementing international legitimacy resolutions, especially Resolution 2334 which calls for stopping settlement in the West Bank encourages the occupation authorities to continue implementing more settlement plans.
Mansour called on the international community to assume its responsibilities, break its silence and take the necessary measures to put pressure on the occupation authorities to force them to abide by international law and international humanitarian law.
