Mamlouk: Preserving national identities is a fundamental pillar of the security and safety of countries

Moscow (ST) – The Advisor for National Security Affairs in the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, Major General Ali Mamlouk stressed that national identity and values are the first line of defence that society has to maintain social cohesion and its internal immunity in the face of foreign agenda, indicating the necessity of preserving them for the sake of international security, peace and stability.

In today’s speech before the 12th international meeting of high-level security officials held in the Russian city of St. Petersburg, Mamlouk said: “Preserving national identity and traditional values for the sake of international security, peace and stability is an important topic at a time when some countries seek to tear apart other countries and attack them by targeting their national identity and attacking their societal values to achieve their political agenda under misleading slogans and titles.”

Mamlouk noted the impact of the social media and modern technology, which negatively affected the security and stability of countries, and led to falling into the trap of extremism, terrorism, and artificial affiliations.
“The terrorist war on Syria has targeted identity and belonging, that is, targeting society’s first line of defence responsible for maintaining social cohesion in the face of foreign agendas and attempts at cultural and intellectual invasion”, he added.

Mamlouk expressed Syria’s appreciation for what Russia has provided of assistance to combat terrorism and support the economic and political fields.
