BEIRUT, (ST)_ Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said that the Iraqi army and people’s forces have regained more than 50 percent of the land that was occupied by Daesh terrorist organization, criticizing that the coalition forces could restore, but little area of the land.
In an arrival statement in Beirut yesterday, Maliki said, “we restored back more than 50 percent of the area, leaving only al-Mousel and some areas and that this experience worthy of study,” adding that the Iraqi army involvement with the popular crowd forces against Qaeda and Daesh terrorist organizations expresses the commitment of the Iraqis to their homeland which will be the grave of terrorism.
“When we think of eliminating Daesh terrorist organization, we have also to eliminate it in Syria as well, because addressing terrorism does not take place in one country without the other, especially that Iraq and Syria are linked by historical ties, Maliki added, ” stressing that Iraq has been liberated by the Iraqi army and people masses stationed in field.
Maliki continued that he will discuss with the Lebanese officials bilateral relations between the two countries and the issue of counter-terrorism under the conditions that prevailed in the region that has become as he put it, “open to have a new map redrawn for it.”
