Malaysian Prime Minister: We are committed to strengthening relations with Syria

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reiterated his country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Syria following a phone call with President Ahmed al-Sharaa to congratulate him on the formation of the new Syrian government.

In a statement posted Monday evening on his official Facebook page, as reported by the Turkish Anadolu Agency, Ibrahim said: “I congratulated Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa on the formation of the new government.”

He added: “Malaysia is committed to developing bilateral relations, especially in the economic field, and is ready to encourage Malaysian companies to invest and contribute to reconstruction efforts in Syria.”

The Malaysian Prime Minister indicated that President al-Sharaa had invited him to visit Syria to enhance cooperation between the two countries.

Ibrahim’s statements came a day after he congratulated President al-Sharaa on the formation of the new government during a phone call on Sunday.

The Malaysian Prime Minister affirmed his country’s keenness to strengthen relations with Syria and open new horizons for cooperation in various fields.
