Makhlouf, new head of ICRC delegation in Damascus discuss future work plans

Damascus (ST): Minister of Local Administration and Environment Hussein Makhlouf discussed with Stéphane Pierre Sakalian, the new head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in Syria, ways to enhance joint cooperation between the delegation and the Syrian government.

Minister Makhlouf underlined the importance of continuing cooperation with the mission to deliver aid to those who deserve it, especially with the increased need due to the terrorist war that Syria suffered from, and the theft of wheat and oil by the American and Turkish occupations, in addition to the systematic sabotage of infrastructure by terrorist organizations, and the unjust economic sanctions that deprive the Syrian people of securing their needs in many sectors. He added that the earthquake came to increase these needs, which requires an increase in the aid provided to Syria by international organizations.

Minister Makhlouf said: We are counting on the continuation of the humanitarian response and early recovery projects carried out by the International Committee of the Red Cross, to meet the needs, away from the politicization of the humanitarian file.

In turn, Sakalian pointed out the importance of the existing work between the Ministry and the Committee, and the continuation of coordination to meet the humanitarian needs of the Syrian people, and the implementation of more projects for early recovery and livelihoods and access to the neediest groups in light of the available capabilities and in accordance with the priorities of the Syrian government.
