Makhlouf discusses with Executive Director of World Food Program cooperation relations and ways to enhance them
Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Engineer Hussein Makhlouf, Chairman of the Higher Committee for Relief, discussed with the Executive Director of the World Food Program David Beasley, the Regional Director of the Program responsible for the Middle East and North Africa, Corinne Fleischer, and the accompanying delegation, relations of cooperation with the program and ways to enhance them.
The two sides discussed the possibility of expanding joint cooperation by increasing the support provided to Syria, which will positively affect the lives of citizens.
Makhlouf stressed the importance of a rapid response to the needs of the population, and the implementation of more projects to reach the stage of recovery. He highlighted the joint cooperation between the Syrian government and the program to raise the level of support and aid in light of the increase in the number of people in need due to the unilateral sanctions imposed on the Syrian people by Western countries and the theft of resources by the American and Turkish occupations.
Makhlouf underlined the need to focus on livelihood projects that provide income-generating job opportunities, and that enable returnees to settle down, manage their affairs, develop their skills and increase their production, especially in the agricultural sector and irrigation systems.
For his part, Beasley indicated his aspiration to expand the scope of the program’s work in Syria, to secure the necessary support for the needy, and to establish sustainable projects in their areas that contribute to improving their livelihood and the quality of their food. He indicated that work will be done to overcome all obstacles that impede rapid response, praising the cooperation and facilities that the program receives during its work in Syria.
