Makhlouf: Coercive measures prevent Supplying requirements for Syrian plans for climate adaptation

Sharm El-Sheikh, (ST) – The Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Eng. Hussein Makhlouf affirmed the commitment of the Syrian Arab Republic to international environmental agreements, especially the Climate Change Agreement and the Paris Agreement.

Makhlouf, said at the ministerial round table of the conference of the parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Sharm el-Sheikh, said that Syria has developed a plan to adapt to climate change that addresses the sectors of agriculture, water resources, energy, and forest protection.

Eng. Makhlouf referred to the climatic phenomena that Syria and neighboring countries are witnessing in an unprecedented way, such as the lack of rain, drought, desertification, forest fires and sand storms, the negative effects of which were increased by the practices of terrorist organizations and their supporters from the American and Turkish occupations.

Makhlouf added that the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed by the West have hindered the supply of requirements and equipment to these plans and banned financing and bank transfers. He indicated that Syria needs in these circumstances to benefit from international financing funds, especially Green Climate Fund and Adaptation Fund to be able to transfer clean technology and capacity building.
