Maintenance of 50% of the electrical interconnection line with Jordan

The maintenance workshops at the Ministry of Electricity are following up on  the reconstruction work of the electrical interconnection line with Jordan. The workers are making a double effort to finish the work by the end of the year in preparation for supplying Lebanon with part of its electrical energy needs from Jordan through the Syrian network, according to the three countries’ agreement on the 6th  of last October.

In a statement to SANA’s reporter, the Minister of Electricity, Engineer Ghassan Al-Zamil, noted that the line connects the two power plants of North Amman and Deir Ali. The national cadres have completed more than 50 percent of its reconstruction work and according to a specific timetable. The reconstruction works will be completed by the end of this year, and then the electrical connection process between Jordan, Syria and  Lebanon will begin.

Al-Zamil stated that the line had been subjected to significant damage during the war years, and that its repair would contribute to maintaining the stability of the electrical system, ensuring the reliability of feeding, and reducing cases of frequency disconnection.

The length of the Syrian-Jordanian electrical interconnection line is 144 km, and maintenance work is being carried out at an estimated distance of 87.5 km within Syrian territory, according to the Director of the Syrian General Corporation for Electricity Transmission and Distribution, Engineer Fawaz Al-Zaher.
