Maha Mardini’s “The Forty Lamps” novel highlights the war on Syria

Syrian writer Maha Mardini on Friday signed her recently published novel “The Forty Lamps” on the sidelines of the Syrian Book Fair currently held at Al-Assad Library in Damascus.

The novel depicts the years of the war on Syria through highlighting the life of a young man and his relations with other youths and families of different categories.

In her novel, Mardini presented many stories depicting some humanitarian situations the Syrians had experienced due to the terrorist war waged on them. She used a new style in presenting the repercussions of the war as well as the problems faced by the society and ways to tackle them.

Among her other works, Mardini published several stories mainly for children.

On his part, Waseem Al-Ghabra, Director of “Dar Al-Mufakker” Publishing House, said that the “Forty Lamps” novel approached many problems and humanitarian issues lived by the Syrians.

He noted the importance of shedding light on the war and its repercussions in order to document the Syrians’ suffering in a literary way that remains as a reference to generations.
