Caracas, (ST) – Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has warned that sanctions and a campaign of hate in the media against Russia could spread the current conflict in Ukraine to other parts of Europe and the world.
“We are deeply concerned about the possibility of a war in Europe and the spread of this armed confrontation to other regions of the world, after the launch and preparation of a media campaign of hatred, in addition to a set of economic measures aimed at exacerbating the current situation and the spread of the military scenario and the theater of military operations out of Ukraine to Europe and from Europe to other regions of the world,” Maduro said in a radio address.
Maduro said that, “the conflict is widening from a military point of view, which could lead to a third world war. It is already having global consequences and a devastating impact on the prices of oil, gasoline and gas, the cost of food, fertilizer and transportation. “The global impact is manifested in the insecurity in the management of international relations,” he added.
Maduro indicated that his country is taking measures to control inflation and the possible effects of the spread of conflict in Europe.
In a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin last week, the Venezuelan president expressed his country’s full support for the decisive measures taken by Russia in Ukraine.
