Lt. Gen. Ayoub Conveys President Al-Assad’s Congratulations to Russian Forces at Hmeimim Airbase On Victory Day

 LATTAKIA, (ST)-Under the directives of President Bashar Al-Assad, the Commander-in-Chief of the army and armed forces, Chief of the Army Staff Lt. Gen. Ali Abdullah Ayoub visited the Hmeimim airbase in Lattakia to convey congratulations, on behalf of President Al-Assad and the Syrian Arab Army, to the Russian forces working at the airbase on the 71st anniversary of Victory over Nazism in WWII.

 In a statement, Lt. Gen. Ayoub expressed the Syrian people and army’s appreciation for the Russian soldiers’ sacrifices and for Russia’s supportive stances towards Syria in the war on terrorism.

He stressed that the steadfastness and sacrifices of the Syrian army and its friends “will result in victory over the new Nazism embodied in the international terrorism targeting Syria.”

On this occasion, a military parade was held with the participation of Russian and Syrian troops.

According to Interfax, a column of military hardware moved across the airfield after the parade. In addition, several pairs of helicopters and planes of the Russian Aerospace Forces participated in the airborne part of the parade.

A number of Russian soldiers were also honored on this occasion.
