“Life Makers” Library for Children with Cancer in Lattakia

Children with cancer, wherever they live in the world , should have equal access to the best possible treatment and care because children with cancer face unique challenges and adjustment.

The opening of the “ Life Makers” library at the Oncology department in Tishreen University Hospital in Lattakia province is the second and final stage of the “Mena and Fina “ project that was launched by the Junior Chamber International JCI in Latakia last September in cooperation with a large number of NGOs and state establishments.

The humanitarian initiative, which is the first of its kind in the province, forms a glimmer of hope that alleviates the pain of children with cancer and supports their treatment process in general.

The library includes a variety of stories, synthetic toys, coloring books, drawing pens, interactive games and musical instruments.

“We hope as youth volunteers that we will reach our humanitarian goals through this place wishing to alleviate the pain of Children with cancer and support their treatment process, if we take into consideration the great role that the psychological state plays in helping children resist and endure to recovery” Nour Daly Head of “ Mena and Fina” project told the Syriatimes e-newspaper.

Daly noted that the educational games in the library will contribute to raise the awareness of these children, expanding their perceptions and compensating for what they missed due to dropping out of their schools and being at the oncology department to receive doses.

On his part, Head of the JCI in Lattakia Haitham Shreteh stressed to the Syriatimes the importance of this project being held in cooperation with a number of civil societies associations to provide a comfortable environment for children with cancer and caring for their health and talents.
