Libyan Minister of Health: Number of victims of Storm Daniel in eastern Libya hits 3,000

The Libyan Minister of Health in the government appointed by the House of Representatives, Othman Abdel Jalil, announced that the number of victims of the Storm Daniel floods hit 3,000, expecting the number to rise to 10,000.

Abdul Jalil said in an interview with the Libyan Al-Massar channel today: The number of missing people has reached thousands, and it is expected that the number will reach about 100,000, stressing that the conditions in the city of Derna are becoming more tragic, and there are no final statistics on the number of victims.

He pointed to the inaccessibility of many neighborhoods, calling on friendly countries to help save what remains of the city of Derna in the mountainous areas.

In addition, the International Federation of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent Societies announced today that the number of missing people as a result of the torrents and floods that Libya witnessed during the past two days has reached 10,000 people so far, expecting the death toll to rise significantly.

The French Press Agency quoted the official in the International Federation of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent Societies Tariq Ramadan as telling reporters in Geneva during a video call from Tunisia: “The death toll is huge and may reach thousands, pointing out that according to independent information sources, the number of missing people has reached 10,000 people so far.”
