Libyan Foreign Minister: Syria is a pivotal and influential state in the region

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdul Hadi al-Hweij has stressed that Syria is a key, influential and pivotal state in the region, despite all the difficult circumstances it has been facing.

 “Syria is immune to terrorism and able to overcome all the adversities thanks to the steadfastness of its people, the heroism of its army and the wisdom of its leadership,” al-Hweij said in an interview with the Syrian TV Monday night.

 He stressed that Syria and Libya should coordinate their stances in the face of the Ottoman scheme in the region, pointing out that the two countries are facing common challenges in their war against Turkish –backed terrorism.

 By fighting terrorism, Syria and Libya are defending all Arab countries

The Libyan top diplomat said that by their war on terror, Syria and Libya are not only defending themselves, they are defending all Arab countries.

He regretted some Arab regimes’ stances which didn’t live up to the challenges that have been facing the Arab nation.

According to al-Hweij, one of the goals of the Libyan delegation’s visit to Syria is to exchange information on the thousands of terrorists and mercenaries who were transferred by Erdogan’s regime to Libya with support from Qatar, the financial arm of all operations in this regard.

He reiterated that the Libyans’ battle today is that of liberating their country from terrorism.

Al-Hweij affirmed the importance that Syria and Libya coordinate their efforts and stances in order to uncover the reality of the expansionist colonialist scheme led by Erdogan to revive the extinct Ottoman empire.

The Libyan official emphasized the need to reactivate the Syrian-Libyan relations in different political, economic and social fields, pointing out that there are 46 signed agreements between the two countries.

On the crisis in Libya, al-Hweij said “if the international community is serious about solving the Libyan crisis, it must stop the flow of weapons, ammunitions, terrorists and mercenaries as well as Turkish soldiers to the country.”
