Lebanon welcomes Syria’s decision to reduce transit fee for trucks carrying goods from Lebanon to Iraq by 50 percent

Lebanese caretaker Minister of Public Works Dr. Ali Hamieh welcomed Syria’s decision to reduce the transit fee for trucks carrying various types of goods from Lebanon to Iraq and vice versa by 50 percent.
“This decision was the culmination of a series of meetings and discussions that took place between the two sides during the past period and in consideration of the common interests between the Lebanese and Syrian states and in accordance with the laws ratified between them” Hamieh said in a press conference on Tuesday.
He pointed out that work is continuing to activate all agreements concluded between the two neighboring countries.
The Lebanese caretaker minister stressed  that Lebanon will seek during the session of the Council of Arab Transport Ministers, which will be held next month in Egypt, to activate the transit transport agreement and the shipping agreement between all Arab countries and gradually work to activate relations and return things to what they were in the past.
In Turn,  Director of Road Transport at the Ministry of Transport, Engineer Sami Suleiman, confirmed on Tuesday  that the Syrian decision aims to encourage transit and passage through Syria based on its important geographical location, indicating that the economic feasibility of the decision will be evaluated after 3 months of the start of implementation.
