Lebanon demands the prevention of Israel from drilling oil in its territorial waters

Lebanon called on the United Nations and the Security Council to prevent the Israeli occupation entity from drilling in its territorial waters in order to avoid any attack on its rights and sovereignty.

The Permanent Representative of Lebanon to the United Nations, Ambassador Amal Mudallali, submitted a memorandum to the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and the President of the Security Council, Ireland’s delegate to the International Organization, Geraldine Burne Naso. The memorandum dealt with the news that the Israeli occupation entity had awarded contracts to provide evaluation services for gas and oil exploration wells in the Mediterranean Sea for “Halliburton company ” in the so-called “Karich field” in the area and the disputed maritime borders.

The memorandum stressed the need for the UN Security Council to ensure that the drilling evaluation work does not take place in the waters “disputed between Lebanon and the Israeli occupation entity, in order to avoid any attack on the rights and sovereignty of Lebanon.”

In the memorandum, Lebanon also asserted that it will prevent any future drilling in these areas in order to avoid steps that might pose a threat to international peace and security.
