Lebanese writer Ghassan Matar: The steadfastness of Syria is a legend

Damascus (ST): The Lebanese writer  Ghassan Matar believes that it is too early to write about the global war on Syria because we are still immersed in it and the one who ignited it still dreams that it will fulfill its purposes as planned and desired, but the Syrian steadfastness during the ten years of this war is legendary.

In an article titled “Syria Al-Assad, the Leadership and the Vision,” which was published in the book “President  Al-Assad, Bright Pages from the History of Resilience” issued by the Syrian General Book Authority,  Matar stated that ten years in which all mercenaries of the world gathered and supported by states providing them with weapons, money, planning, and the goal is to bring down Syria and subjugate it for their sinister goals, but  they reaped nothing but failure and defeat, and this  country remained free and impregnable.

Matar explained that the reasons for steadfastness are great and noble, some of which date back to the history of Syria  which has thousands of years of  strong presence, civilization, glow and efficacy, and others go back to its present including its internal immunity, the pioneering leadership, the people adhering to pride and dignity, and the brave army which is  committed to the principle of defending the land, sovereignty and loyal allies.

The writer pointed out that it has been clear to President Bashar al-Assad since he assumed leadership that the enemies ’plans are targeting Syria first in the new Middle East plan due to its location and position towards the Israeli occupation of Palestine, and this scheme, as engineered by successive US administrations, is a scheme of fragmentation, subjugation, humiliation, and complete Zionist control over decision and resources of the Arab countries.

Matar clarified that for more pressure on Syria, the economic blockade came with the intention of restraining the Syrians, who faced it with patience and steadfastness, rallying behind their leadership and their state.

It is noteworthy that Ghassan Matar was born in Jbeil in Lebanon in 1942. He studied law, language and literature, worked in teaching and journalism, and was elected deputy in the Lebanese Parliament for two consecutive terms. He was also elected Secretary General of the Lebanese Writers’ Union and has poetry collections and a number of studies and articles on literature and politics.
