Lebanese Private Hospitals Syndicate: No single bed is available, neither for Corona patients nor for anyone else
President of the Syndicate of Private Hospitals in Lebanon, Dr. Suleiman Haroun, has stressed that all beds in the country’s private hospitals have been fully occupied, and therefore “there is no single bed available, neither for a Corona patient nor for anyone else”.
According to Haroun, all the beds are occupied in the departments designated for Covid-19 patients. In addition, all the emergency departments are full and there are dozens of patients moving from one hospital to another in search of abed, he pointed out, revealing that Lebanon’s hospitals are overwhelmed by Coronavirus cases that exceeded their capacity.
“Over the past month, the number of beds allocated to Corona patients at private hospitals in Lebanon have doubled to reach 600 beds in intensive care and 1100 normal beds,” Haroun made it clear, indicating that “this is the best of what they can do, as they cannot afford to equip more beds in the light of the economic crisis in the country due to the devaluation of the Lebanese currency, as well as the state’s failure to pay the accumulated debts for hospitals.”
On Saturday, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced in its latest statistics that the total number of deaths due to the virus in the country reached 1866, while the total number of infections reached 249,158, as the country has recorded a sharp increase in the number of daily infections during the past two weeks.
