Lebanese President Joseph Aoun confirms that joint Lebanese-Syrian committees will be formed to address outstanding issues, including the demarcation of borders and the situation of displaced Syrians.
He emphasized that the decision to restrict the possession of weapons to the Lebanese state has already been made.
The Lebanese National News Agency quoted Aoun as saying during his reception of a delegation from the French Senate at Baabda Palace in Beirut: The Lebanese Army is deployed along the northeastern border and is fully fulfilling its duties.
The Agency is also responsible for combating terrorism, preventing smuggling, and maintaining internal security.
He emphasized that the decision to restrict weapons to the Lebanese state has already been made, and it is not permissible to return to the situation of war.
Aoun added: Joint Lebanese-Syrian committees will be formed to address outstanding issues, including the demarcation of borders and maritime borders and the situation of displaced Syrians in Lebanon for economic reasons.
He pointed out that the Israeli withdrawal from the five hills in southern Lebanon constitutes a necessity to expedite the completion of the Lebanese army’s deployment to the border, where the state alone assumes responsibility for border security.
