NEW YORK, (ST)-Lebanese President Michel Aoun has called on world leaders to work hard as to facilitate the return of the displaced Syrians to their homeland, stressing that the Syrian government has created all the circumstances necessary for this purpose.
In a speech during the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, Aoun said that the situation in most Syrian areas has become stable, creating suitable circumstances for the safe return of the displaced, pointing out that the Syrian government has always announced that it welcomes the return of the Syrian refugees.
Aoun warned against turning the refugees into hostages of an international game and against giving up their safe and dignified return programs, criticizing the suspicious stances of some influential countries and concerned international organizations that seek hampering the refugees’ return.
Elsewhere in his statement, President Aoun reiterated that Lebanon is adherent to its sovereign right over the occupied Sheba’a Farms, Kfarchouba hills and the northern part of al-Ghajar village.
He noted Israel’s continuous violations of the Lebanese sovereignty and airspace by Israeli military aircrafts and drones and condemned Israel’s activities in the Middle East, stressing that they flagrantly violate the UN principles and resolutions.
