BEIRUT,(ST) _ Lebanese Maronite Cardinal Patriarch Mar Beshara Boutros al-Rae called on countries fomenting war in Syria by sending money, arm people and equipment to stop that .
In a speech he made during the opening of the Lebanese Heritage Museum in the General Secretariat of the Catholic Schools in Lebanon al-Rae called on the international community to shoulder its responsibility to end this war in order to achieve peace in the world and protect states and citizens.
He called on the Syrians to cease instantly what he described as “the demolition of their homes on their heads , killing innocent lives and destruction of civilizations” pointing out that no one has the right to assault another’s life.
Patriarch al-Rae warned against the exploitation of the issue of the displaced Syrians in Lebanon, noting :” Receiving our displaced Syrian brothers is but a humanitarian obligation, that we do gladly and with much of solidarity, but we ask the Lebanese state to know who and how one enters to Lebanon so as the humanitarian assistance we give will not be disaster for our country .”
He continued that the chaos happening today in Lebanon can for the long-term profoundly affect Lebanese culture, adding that the whole issue is a humanitarian help for the displaced, “but to be confined to sending money and aid , while the war goes on is unacceptable and this war should be stopped today rather than tomorrow.”
