Lebanese Health Minister: 8 martyred, more than 2,800 wounded in “pager” explosions in several Lebanese areas
The Lebanese Caretaker Public Health Minister Firas Abiad announced in a press conference on Tuesday that “more than 2,800 people were injured, and 8 were martyred, including a child, in the pager devices explosions in a number of Lebanese regions this afternoon, mainly the southern suburb of Beirut” adding that “hand injuries were mostly reported,” the Lebanese National News Agency reported.
In light of the security incidents, PM Najib Mikati called for mobilizing the hospitals and medics to treat the injured.
The health ministry, in turn, ordered the hospitals and medics to exert the maximum efforts and stay on alert in order to provide the emergency services.
The Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah announced that a number of message receiving devices known as “pagers”, which were in the possession of a number of workers at various movement units and institutions, exploded.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Hezbollah noted that these explosions, the causes of which are still unknown, led to the martyrdom of seceral people and the injury of tens others with various wounds.
“Hezbollah’s competent agencies are currently conducting a wide-range security and scientific investigation to determine the causes of those simultaneous explosions. Likewise, medical and health agencies are treating the wounded and injured at a number of hospitals in various Lebanese regions.”
Hezbollah called on the Lebanese people to be aware of the rumors and false and misleading information that some parties are spreading in a way that serves the psychological war of the Zionist enemy”, “especially as this is accompanied by the Zionist enemy’s speeches of intimidation and threats to what it calls ‘changing the situation in the north’”.
Hezbollah affirmed that the resistance, at all levels and units, is at the highest level of readiness to defend Lebanon and the steadfast Lebanese people.
