DAMASCUS, (ST)_ The Lebanese Foreign Minister, Adnan Mansour, expressed Lebanon’s keenness to maintain security and stability in Syria, due to geographical contiguity and the distinguished historical relations between the two countries.
In a statement to the Lebanese al-Nahar newspaper, published Sunday, Mansour said that there are certain sides that seek to make advantage of what is happening in Syria to destabilize the situation in Lebanon and other countries.
Minister Mansour underscored the need to control Lebanon’s border with Syria in order to prevent infiltration of armed militants to and from it , noting that the Lebanese army is abiding by its duty in this regard to the fullest. “However, this abidance does not prevent the occurrence of infiltration of certain armed elements,” the Lebanese Minister explained.
He considered that the flames of the battle in Syria affects the region, especially Lebanon, Iraq and Jordan.
Mansour pointed to the importance of safeguarding the inviolability of the internal front of Lebanon and the significance of national commitment, so as to thwart any attempt to disrupt security in Lebanon, recalling incidents that took place recently in northern Lebanon.
Minister Mansour stressed that Israel is violating UN Resolution No, 1701 and that the Israeli violations against Lebanon exceeded ten thousand breaches since 2006 , and that the Israeli daily violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty by land, sea and air, are registered by United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon ( UNIFIL).
He added that the recent flying of Hezbollah reconnaissance drone plane over occupied Palestine was not a breach of UN Resolution No. 1701 , but a message that Israel has been violating Resolution 1701 and it should stop its provocations, citing the continued Israeli aggression against Lebanon through its continued occupation of the Lebanese territories in Shabaa, Kufr Shuba, and al-Ghajar, not to mention its land, sea and air violations.
