Lebanese FM Urges AL to Lift Syria Suspension

CAIRO, (ST) – Lebanese Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour has called for lifting the suspension of Syria in the Arab League.

During the meeting of the AL Ministerial Council in Cairo on Wednesday, Mansour said the AL has failed to find a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria.

“The crisis in Syria hurts all of us as we feel disabled to attain a political solution based on national dialogue among concerned Syrian parties. We are proving to the world that we failed in solving the crisis, but unfortunately, succeeded in suspending Syria’s membership in the Arab League,” Mansour said.

He added the decisions of the Arab League contributed to the rise of violence in Syria. “We thought that by replacing the current Syrian regime with another we will attain security and stability to Syria, but instead, more bloodshed and destruction was caused to the country.”

The Lebanese FM, who handed over the chairmanship of the AL Ministerial Council to Egypt, referred to the continuous flow of arms, money and terrorists to Syria from all over the world and without any restrictions. He also pointed to the dissemination of the extremist and Takfiri mentality in the region aiming to sow sedition seeds and promote extremism.

He urged the AL member states to work hard to find a balanced and honorable political solution to the crisis in Syria.

“Let’s restore Syria to the Arab League. Let’s lift her membership suspension, because keeping contacts with Syria is a necessity to attain political settlement which saves the country,” Mansour said.

In another context, the Lebanese Foreign Minister criticized Israel’s violations of international laws and its annexation and Judaization policies which add more challenges to efforts aiming to settle the Palestinian cause.
