Lebanese Army Arrests 11 Persons Smuggling Weapons to Syria

BEIRUT,(ST)_ Lebanese army units deployed in Arsal area on Thursday evening and Friday morning detained 11 persons including  four Syrians  and seized with them large amounts of weapons, ammunition and military materiel in the steppe leading to the Lebanese border with Syria

 A statement by the Directorate of Guidance  in the Lebanese Army Command  said that units of the Lebanese army continues its security procedures and breaking in operations to arrest persons  wanted to justice and fights against acts of infiltration and smuggling of weapons and contraband.

The statement added that detainees were handed over with seizures to the competent authorities while  military forces continue to pursue others.

 These measures come after the attack, against one  unit  the Lebanese army resulted in  killing an army  officer and his assistant.

In a report the Lebanese Al-Manar TV said that the arrests of the Lebanese Army Intelligence on Thursday night in  Arsal  mountainous area of the  Lebanese Bekaa affected persons while trying to smuggle and transport arms and ammunition to inside Syria.

The channel , added that  preliminary security information reported that intelligence detained  five people at night : three Syrians and two Lebanese from Arsal trying to smuggle assault rifles ,  night binoculars and grenades,  adding that Lebanese army units were able to arrest these people near the main entrance of Arsal and handed  them over to the army intelligence for investigation  and then to bring  them before the  military justice.
