Lazzarini warns against Israel’s calls for dismantling UNRWA

Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner General of the United Nation Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, warned that the Israeli occupation’s calls to dismantle the Agency would lead to the sacrifice of an entire generation of children and sow the seeds of future conflicts.

France Press quoted Lazzarini as saying in a speech before the United Nation General Assembly “the demands of Israel to dismantle UNRWA are a reckless step, as we will sacrifice an entire generation of children and will plant the seeds of hatred and resentment and the outbreak of future conflicts.

Lazzarini considered it naive to believe that the demise of the agency could occur without threatening global peace and security.

In a statement to the Swiss Tamedia newspaper group in mid-February, Lazzarini considered that UNRWA is facing a broad and coordinated campaign from “Israel” aimed at destroying it, and this is a long-term political goal, because they believe that if the agency is abolished, the issue of the status of Palestinian refugees will be resolved once and for all, and with it the right of return.
